TITLE: SQL Server DBA
LOCATION: Northwest Houston
TYPE: Contract-to-Hire (6+ months)
RATE: $60.00 - $70.00/hour (DOE)
Seeking a Senior SQL Server DBA to support the client's systems.
Candidate must have a strong understanding of SQL Server database administration.
This position will be an addition to our database support team. Must have a background that is focused on performance tuning, automation, and/or scripting.
This role will be 60% SQL - and 40% cloud-native DB offerings – PostgreSQL, MySQL, or AWS native DBs, which will require expertise on the non-Windows platforms.
Must have scripting skills on PowerShell, Python, and T-SQL
Requires a deep understanding of SQL Wait events and wait statistics who will be valuable to the application support team for performance analysis.
This individual must have a solid understanding of AWS architecture, AWS storage subsystems, and AWS subnets – needless to say, AWS CLI, PowerShell for AWS.
This person will help shape the department's future SQL Server vision from database standards and policies to automation efforts for deployment. The ideal candidate will have Experience implementing databases in the cloud and will have Experience with continuous integration and automation concepts.
--Perform day-to-day operations (includes monitoring and maintenance, problem investigation and resolution, backup creation and maintenance, database optimization and tuning, etc.).
--Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real-time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
--Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
--Effectively prioritize and manage concurrent projects, demonstrate initiative, and work independently with minimal supervision.
--Drive results and leverage past experiences to improve the environment and related processes.
--Coordinate with other agency departments to update and integrate processes as necessary.
--Demonstrate leadership skills (foster a spirit of teamwork, mentor peers, and take ownership of assigned project work).
--Install and configure SQL Server, applying service packs and feature packs.
--Apply data modeling techniques to ensure integration and performance expectations are met and allow for future flexibility to meet changing business needs.
--Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
--Stay current on technology and industry standards; work with leadership to develop strategic plans and roadmaps.

--Candidates must be local to Houston, as this is a blend between remote and in-office
--SQL Server DBA experience with 2012 or newer (Required 5 plus Years)
--SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) (Required 5 plus Years)
--SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) (Required 5 plus Years)
--SQL Server Stored Procedure Design and implementation (Required 5 plus Years)
--SQL Server database troubleshooting and query optimization (Required 5 plus Years)
--SQL Server Database Performance monitoring (Required 5 plus Years)
--SQL Server Database Design (Required 5 plus Years)
--Expert understanding of Database best practices (Required 5 plus Years)
--Experience upgrading databases from lower to latest versions (Required 5 plus Years)
--Strong technical and project management skills, as well as the willingness to engage in a hands-on way, to provide specific technical guidance (Required 5 plus Years)
--Strong written and verbal communication skills (Required 5 plus Years)
--Data Warehousing concepts (Required 2-3 Years)
--Operational automation using scripts (knowledge of Octopus Deploy and DbUp preferred). (Preferred skills)
--Familiarity with Agile (Scrum and/or Kanban) methodology (Preferred skills)
--Databases migration using Azure &/or AWS (Highly Desired 1 plus Years)
--Experience in performing DR techniques - Always On, Clustering, Replication,
--Database mirroring, etc. (Highly Desired 1 plus Years)
